Day 1: Arriving in Casablanca - Transfer to the hotel

Your Morocco two week itinerary begins at Casablanca International Airport where your Atlas Desert Tours driver-guide will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.

Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a visit to the magnificent Hassan II Mosque overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It is the third-largest mosque in the world and home to the tallest minaret on earth standing at 210 meters high. The mosque is also one of the few in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors.


In the evening, you may choose to enjoy dinner at Rick’s Café, designed to recreate the famous bar from the classic movie Casablanca starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. It remains one of the most iconic restaurants in the city.

Day 2: Casablanca – Rabat – Chefchaouen

After breakfast, we leave Casablanca and travel toward Rabat, the political capital of Morocco overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Here, you will visit the beautiful Kasbah of Oudayas, a peaceful fortress perched above the ocean with whitewashed streets, Andalusian gardens, and wonderful coastal views. You will also explore the famous Hassan Tower, an unfinished 12th century minaret that became one of Rabat’s most important landmarks, along with the elegant Mausoleum of Mohammed V, beautifully decorated with white marble, carved cedar wood, and traditional Moroccan mosaics.

After lunch, we continue north through the scenic Rif Mountains, enjoying beautiful countryside landscapes before arriving in Chefchaouen, Morocco’s famous Blue City hidden in the heart of the mountains.

Day 3: Explore Chefchaouen – Morocco’s Blue Pearl

If you are familiar with Instagram or Pinterest, you have likely seen the famous blue streets of Chefchaouen.

Hidden in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is one of Morocco’s most photogenic and peaceful cities. Its blue-painted walls, colorful staircases, charming cafés, and mountain atmosphere create a completely unique experience unlike anywhere else in Morocco.

Today, you will have plenty of time to wander through the medina, discover hidden corners, photograph the beautiful blue alleyways, and simply enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the city.

Day 4: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

After breakfast, we travel toward the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis where you will explore beautifully preserved mosaics, columns, temples, and archaeological remains dating back more than 2,000 years.

Afterward, we continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities. Here, your guide will introduce you to the magnificent Bab Mansour Gate, the grand square of El Hedim, and the historical heart of the medina.

Later in the afternoon, we continue toward Fes.

Day 5: Guided Tour of Fes

Today, your knowledgeable local guide will take you on a walking tour through Fes, the spiritual capital and oldest imperial city of Morocco.

Most of the guided tour takes place inside the ancient medina with its narrow alleys, artisan workshops, colorful souks, and remarkable medieval atmosphere.

Highlights include Al Karaouine University, considered one of the oldest universities in the world and one of the most important religious centers in Morocco. You will also visit Medersa Bou Inania, a beautiful 14th century theological college famous for its intricate zellij tilework, carved cedar wood, and elegant Moroccan architecture.

Next, you will explore the famous leather tanneries where leather is still dyed using traditional methods passed down through generations. The tour also includes the pottery cooperative where artisans create handmade mosaics and ceramics, the historic Jewish quarter known as the Mellah, and the magnificent Royal Palace gate with its enormous brass doors and colorful mosaics.

Fes offers one of the richest cultural experiences anywhere in Morocco.

Day 6: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

After breakfast, we leave Fes and journey south toward the majestic Sahara Desert.

 

Today, you will travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing traditional Berber villages, cedar forests, and spectacular landscapes.

Our first stop is Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its alpine-style architecture, flower gardens, and clean streets.

We continue through the cedar forests near Azrou where you may observe Barbary macaques living among the ancient cedar trees before stopping for lunch in Midelt.

The scenery changes dramatically as we continue through the lush Ziz Valley with its endless palm groves and oasis villages before arriving in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert.

 

Dinner, Bed and Breakfast are included.

Today is often the highlight of the entire two week Morocco itinerary.

You will explore the Sahara Desert by 4x4, visiting nomadic families living in traditional tents and learning about their desert lifestyle while sharing a glass of mint tea.

You will also visit Khamlia village, famous for its spiritual Gnawa music with roots tracing back to sub-Saharan Africa.

After lunch, you may relax at your hotel or enjoy the swimming pool before your camel trek into the golden Erg Chebbi dunes.

Watching the sunset over the Sahara while riding camels across the dunes is one of the most unforgettable experiences in Morocco.

Day 8: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Wake early this morning to witness sunrise over the Sahara dunes before leaving the desert behind and continuing toward Dades Valley.

Along the way, we visit Rissani, birthplace of Morocco’s current royal family and home to one of southern Morocco’s most authentic traditional markets.

We continue through oasis valleys and Berber villages toward Todra Gorge, a spectacular canyon reaching nearly 300 meters deep.

After lunch, we continue toward Dades Valley where you will discover dramatic landscapes and unusual rock formations known locally as the “Monkey Fingers.”

Day 9: Dades Valley – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast, we leave Dades Valley and travel through the beautiful Rose Valley toward Ouarzazate, often called the "Hollywood of Africa" because of its dramatic desert landscapes and famous film studios.

We then continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco's most famous fortified village and one of the finest examples of traditional southern Moroccan architecture. This ancient kasbah once served as an important stop along the old caravan routes connecting the Sahara Desert to Marrakech.

After lunch, we cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, enjoying breathtaking views of mountain peaks, valleys, and traditional Berber villages along the way.

Arrival in Marrakech is usually around 4:00 to 5:00 pm.

Day 10: Explore Marrakech with a Local Guide

After breakfast, your local guide will meet you at your riad and take you on a private guided tour of Marrakech, Morocco's most vibrant and fascinating imperial city.

Your visit begins with the famous Koutoubia Mosque, whose elegant 12th-century minaret dominates the skyline and remains one of the most recognizable landmarks in Morocco.

You will then explore the beautiful Bahia Palace, a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture featuring tranquil courtyards, colorful mosaics, carved cedar wood, and lush gardens. Nearby, you will visit the Saadian Tombs, built in the 16th century and richly decorated with marble, intricate plasterwork, and colorful tile mosaics.

Next, discover Ben Youssef Madrasa, once the largest Islamic college in North Africa. Its remarkable courtyard, carved cedar wood, zellij tilework, and elegant arches make it one of Marrakech's architectural treasures.

After lunch, continue to the bustling Jemaa El-Fna Square, the beating heart of Marrakech. Here, storytellers, musicians, snake charmers, food stalls, and market vendors create one of the most unforgettable atmospheres in Morocco.

Day 11: Free Day in Marrakech

Today is yours to enjoy however you wish.

After exploring Morocco's imperial cities, mountains, kasbahs, and Sahara Desert, many travelers appreciate having a day to slow down and enjoy Marrakech more leisurely.

You may spend the day wandering through the colorful souks, visiting Majorelle Gardens and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, relaxing in a traditional hammam, enjoying a Moroccan cooking class, or simply soaking up the atmosphere from one of the city's rooftop cafés.

Marrakech is a city that rewards curiosity. Some travelers spend the day shopping for handcrafted rugs, pottery, leather goods, and local artwork, while others prefer relaxing in the peaceful courtyards of their riad.

This extra day allows you to experience Marrakech beyond the major monuments and discover the city at your own pace.

Day 12: Marrakech – Essaouira

After breakfast, we leave Marrakech and travel west toward the Atlantic coast.

 

Along the way, you will pass through the famous argan-growing region where Morocco's iconic argan trees cover the landscape. Depending on the season, you may even spot goats climbing the trees in search of food.

By early afternoon, we arrive in Essaouira, one of Morocco's most charming coastal cities. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, sea breezes, whitewashed buildings, fishing harbor, and impressive ramparts, Essaouira offers a completely different experience from the imperial cities and desert regions visited earlier in the journey.

After checking into your riad, you will have time to explore the medina, stroll along the harbor, and enjoy some of the freshest seafood in Morocco.

Day 13: Explore Essaouira

Today is dedicated to discovering the unique charm of Essaouira.

The city's UNESCO-listed medina is known for its relaxed atmosphere, artisan workshops, colorful streets, and historic Portuguese-influenced architecture. Unlike the busy medinas of Marrakech and Fes, Essaouira moves at a much slower pace.

You may walk along the historic Skala ramparts overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, watch fishermen bring in their daily catch, browse local art galleries, or simply relax in one of the many cafés overlooking the sea.

Essaouira has long attracted artists, musicians, and travelers from around the world thanks to its creative atmosphere and beautiful coastal setting.

This free day allows you to fully enjoy one of Morocco's most beloved destinations.

Day 14: Essaouira – Safi – El Jadida – Casablanca

Today, we follow Morocco's beautiful Atlantic coastline north toward Casablanca.

Our first stop is Safi, a historic coastal city known for its fishing traditions, dramatic ocean views, and centuries-old pottery craftsmanship. The city remains one of Morocco's most important ceramic-producing centers.

We then continue to El Jadida, a UNESCO World Heritage Site originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Here, you will explore the impressive sea walls, historic fortifications, and the famous Portuguese Cistern, one of Morocco's most fascinating historical monuments.

After lunch and sightseeing, we continue to Casablanca where you will spend your final evening in Morocco.

Day 15: Departure from Casablanca Airport

Depending on your flight schedule, your driver will transfer you to Casablanca International Airport for your departure flight.
